Lawan begins 2021 medical outreach, livestock vaccination in Yobe

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has commenced the 2021 medical outreach and the vaccinations of livestock in Yobe State.

According to him, the medical outreach targeted the less privileged in north senatorial district for various ailments.

Flagging off the outreach yesterday (Sunday) at the Specialist Hospital, Gashua and the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, in north senatorial district, Sen. Lawan disclosed that all treatments are free of charge to the people.

The medical outreach was also extended to livestock; by vaccination domestic animals and cattle against livestock diseases, including rabies, render pest and ticks.

“The outreach is organized by the Ahmed Lawan Foundation (SAIL), the Yobe Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Health in partnership with medical doctors of Hospitals and Medical Centre, Nguru,” he said.

He said that the medical outreach comprises free surgical screening, eye surgeries with eye glasses to restore people’s sights.

Other free treatments include the ones for hernia, fibroids and other gynecological related ailments among women and girls.

“In life, we’re supposed to give back to society, when we are privileged while serving the people,” he noted, stating that the intervention provides the people relief and healings from their ailments.

He pledged to construct an intensive care unit (ICU) next year at the Specialist Hospital, Gashua.

He therefore charged the medical outreach team to conduct research into the various diseases that have been claiming lives of people in the district.

“You should follow up on the patients. This will determine the efficacy of the various medical interventions you render to the patients,” he said.

Responding, the Medical Director for Nguru Centre, Dr. Abubakar Muhammad Musa, disclosed that the medial outreach comprises surgical specialties in general surgery, gynecology and ophthalmology.
